Luxury Bauble

About

My name is Erik Schmidt. I manage products and projects at productOps in Santa Cruz, California.

In the past I've deployed to Somalia, worked with the "I Have A Dream" Foundation, run the CNCS website, been a contractor at DARPA, built websites for people, created Mac Law Students, run TechLaw Forum, obtained a J.D., worked at Yahoo!, and done a few other things along the way.

The opinions expressed in Luxury Bauble are mine alone, probably for good reason.

The name of the site comes from Matthew Lynn's January 14, 2007 assertion in Bloomberg News:

The iPhone is nothing more than a luxury bauble that will appeal to a few gadget freaks. In terms of its impact on the industry, the iPhone is less relevant.

I host Luxury Bauble at Hurricane Electric, because I've used them for years and they have always been excellent. I build and maintain the site in BBEdit, because I am tired of CMSes and BBEdit makes me happy. The Proxima Nova typeface graces the pages of this site by way of Adobe's TypeKit service.
